Medical weight loss

Losing weight with injections

Appetite suppressants can reduce appetite and food intake, thereby supporting weight loss. At WeightConsult, the focus is not on the brand, but on your medical situation. A doctor will assess which treatment is safe and appropriate for you.

How does it work?

A waste injection affects signals relating to hunger and satiety

The available treatments differ in terms of their active ingredient and mode of action, but what they have in common is that they mimic the body’s own hormonal systems involved in appetite and food intake.

01

Less hunger

The medication may affect the signals involved in appetite, which could reduce the urge to eat.

02

Feels fuller for longer

Feeling fuller for longer or more intensely can make it easier to eat smaller portions.

03

Support with weight loss

When combined with changes to diet and exercise, this can lead to significant weight loss.

These treatments are no substitute for lifestyle changes. Diet, exercise, behaviour and medical supervision remain an integral part of a responsible treatment programme.

For whom.

Not everyone who is overweight is automatically eligible

Medical criteria apply to medicines authorised for weight management. In adults, these usually relate to obesity, or being overweight in combination with a weight-related condition.

In addition, the doctor will assess your health, medication use, medical history and any possible contraindications.

Take your first BMI test →
30+
A BMI of 30 or aboveThis falls within the category of obesity and may be an indication for weight management with medication.
27+
BMI of 27 or above + weight-related conditionFor example, high blood pressure, abnormal blood lipid levels, sleep apnoea or type 2 diabetes, depending on the medicine and the patient’s medical condition.
Important: BMI is only an initial criterion. The final decision on whether to treat and which medicine is appropriate is always made by a doctor.

Daily or weekly?

The practical differences go beyond just the frequency

Saxenda is taken daily. Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro are administered once a week. However, frequency alone does not determine which treatment is suitable.

The active ingredient, medical indication, expected effects, side effects, previous experiences and your personal health are all factors to be taken into account.

Research findings±8–21%

Average weight loss varies considerably depending on the medication, dose, study population and duration of treatment. The figures are therefore not directly comparable.

What can you expect?

The various injections do not produce the same average result

Research shows that liraglutide results in an average weight loss of approximately 8%. For semaglutide 2.4 mg, this was around 15%, and for tirzepatide, an average of approximately 15–21% was observed, depending on the dose studied.

* The semaglutide result of approximately 15% relates to a study using the 2.4 mg dose for weight management (Wegovy) and is not an Ozempic result. Study results are no guarantee of individual weight loss.

Getting started with WeightConsult

From BMI check to treatment

The process is organised online, but the medical assessment remains the guiding factor.

01

BMI check

You’ll get an initial indication of whether you might be eligible.

02

Medical questionnaire

You’ll need to provide details about your health, medication and relevant medical history.

03

Payment

If, following the initial assessment, you are able to proceed, you will pay for the chosen treatment phase.

04

Online consultation with a doctor

The doctor will discuss your situation, any questions you may have and the proposed treatment plan.

05

Medication from a pharmacy

Once medical approval has been given, the prescribed medication is ordered and delivered.

06

Support & follow-up

We monitor the process and assess progress, tolerance, lifestyle and next steps.

Safety & side effects

Waste injections are prescription-only medicines

They can be effective, but they also have side effects and are not suitable for everyone. That is why a medical assessment is part of the treatment.

Frequent stomach and bowel problems

Depending on the medication, side effects may include nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and vomiting. These symptoms are commonly observed whilst the dose is being gradually increased.

The doctor looks beyond your BMI

Your medical history, other medicines you are taking, any potential contraindications and the risk of side effects all play a part in determining whether treatment is appropriate. A higher BMI therefore does not automatically mean that you can start treatment.

Ready to take the next step?

Check whether a treatment is right for you

You now know how the fees are structured and what treatment options are available. So the next step is simple: start with the BMI check and find out whether you might be able to proceed to the medical assessment.
