Frequently asked questions
A quick answer to your question
From suitability and medication to costs, consultations and delivery. Below you’ll find the answers to the questions we’re asked most often.
Eligible
Am I eligible for treatment?
The BMI check provides an initial indication. A doctor will then assess your medical condition.
For weight management, this generally involves a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above in combination with a weight-related condition. In addition, treatment must be medically justified.
No. BMI is just one factor. The doctor will also take into account your health, current medication, medical history and any possible contraindications.
This varies depending on the medicine. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain medical conditions and other medication may, for example, be reasons not to start treatment. A medical assessment is therefore necessary.
Yes. The BMI check provides an initial indication. Only then does the medical assessment and evaluation take place.
Medication
What medication does WeightConsult use?
WeightConsult offers a range of prescription-only treatment options. The doctor decides which option is medically appropriate.
WeightConsult works with, amongst others, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda and, in specific situations, Ozempic. Not every medicine has the same authorised indication.
They differ in terms of active ingredient, dosage, frequency of administration, authorised indication and average trial results. Wegovy contains semaglutide, Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and Saxenda contains liraglutide. Ozempic also contains semaglutide but is authorised for type 2 diabetes.
Yes. These medicines are administered under the skin using an injection pen. Depending on the medicine, this is done either daily or once a week.
The needle on an injection pen is very small. Many people find the injection barely painful, but this varies from person to person.
No. These are prescription-only medicines. At WeightConsult, medication is only dispensed following a medical assessment, an online consultation and the doctor’s approval.
Costs & payment
What does the treatment cost?
The costs depend on the chosen medicine, the dosage and the stage of treatment.
Current prices vary depending on the medicine and dosage. You should therefore always check the pricing page for the current price structure.
No. The current procedure is that, if the intake assessment indicates you can proceed, you first pay for the treatment phase. You then book the online consultation with the doctor.
No. You’re not tied into a rolling subscription. At the end of each treatment period, you decide together with WeightConsult whether to continue.
The available payment methods are displayed during the online payment stage. This is where you complete the payment for the relevant treatment phase.
That depends on the medicine, the condition it’s being used to treat and the terms of your insurance policy. In many cases, treatment is not covered by basic health insurance. Always check this with your health insurer.
Results & lifestyle
What can you expect from the treatment?
Research results vary from one medicine to another. Your personal results will also depend on a number of factors.
Many people notice a change in their appetite or feeling of fullness during the first few weeks. Weight loss then occurs gradually and varies from person to person.
This varies considerably depending on the medicine and dose. In clinical trials, the average ranges roughly from around 8% with liraglutide to approximately 15–21% with tirzepatide, depending on the dose and target population under investigation.
No. Medication works best as part of a broader approach that takes into account diet, exercise, sleep and lifestyle habits.
Once you have stopped, your appetite may return. That is why, throughout the process, attention must also be paid to lifestyle, habits and a responsible follow-up or tapering-off plan.
Generally speaking, exercise is actually part of healthy weight management. The type and intensity that are right for you depend on your health and fitness level.
Consultation & getting started
How does a programme at WeightConsult begin?
The process is conducted online, but a medical assessment and a consultation with a doctor remain mandatory.
You start with the BMI check and then complete the medical questionnaire. If, based on the initial assessment, you are eligible to proceed, you pay for the treatment phase and book the online consultation.
This medication is available on prescription only. A doctor must therefore assess whether the treatment is safe and suitable for you, and discuss any questions you may have about the treatment plan.
The doctor will discuss your medical history, the aim of your treatment, the proposed medication and any questions you may have. They will also check that the treatment plan is appropriate.
Once you have completed the medical intake and made your payment, you will be able to choose a suitable time for the e-consultation online.
No. Medication is only ordered once the doctor has spoken to you and approved the treatment plan.
Delivery & pharmacy
How is the medication delivered?
Once the doctor has given their approval, the medication is arranged through the eFarma pharmacy and dispatched in accordance with the required conditions.
WeightConsult works in partnership with the eFarma pharmacy in Beverwijk to dispense medicines.
Once medical approval has been given, the prescription is sent to the pharmacy. The exact delivery time depends on processing, stock levels and the chosen delivery slot.
Some medicines must be transported under refrigerated conditions and handed over in person to ensure their quality.
Yes. The medication is dispatched discreetly. The packaging does not need to reveal that you are following a treatment programme with WeightConsult.
Where refrigeration is required, a suitable medical shipping method is used to ensure that the required temperature is maintained during transport.
