Operation

How does Mounjaro work?

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. This active ingredient activates two hormonal systems: GIP and GLP-1. This sets Mounjaro apart from medicines that act exclusively via the GLP-1 receptor.

01

GIP + GLP-1

Tirzepatide activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which are involved in metabolism and food intake.

02

Loss of appetite

This dual action affects hunger signals and may help to reduce food intake.

03

Greater satiety

A greater feeling of fullness can help you make long-term changes to your portion sizes and eating habits.

Mounjaro is authorised for weight management in adults who meet the medical criteria, in addition to a modified diet and increased physical activity.

Dosage & administration

What is Mounjaro made of?

Mounjaro is usually started at a dose of 2.5 mg once a week. After four weeks, the dose is increased to 5 mg. If a further increase is required, this is done in increments of 2.5 mg and only after at least four weeks on the current dose.
