How does Mounjaro work?
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide. This active ingredient activates two hormonal systems: GIP and GLP-1. This sets Mounjaro apart from medicines that act exclusively via the GLP-1 receptor.
GIP + GLP-1
Tirzepatide activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which are involved in metabolism and food intake.

Dosage & administration
What is Mounjaro made of?
Mounjaro is usually started at a dose of 2.5 mg once a week. After four weeks, the dose is increased to 5 mg. If a further increase is required, this is done in increments of 2.5 mg and only after at least four weeks on the current dose.
Once a weekThe usual maintenance doses are 5, 10 or 15 mg once a week. The doctor will decide, based on the effect and tolerability, whether a further increase in dose is necessary.
Study results after 72 weeks in adults who are obese or overweight and have a weight-related complication, but do not have diabetes. Individual results may vary.

How much weight can you lose with Mounjaro?
In the SURMOUNT-1 study, tirzepatide resulted in an average weight loss of 15.0%, 19.5% and 20.9% at doses of 5 mg, 10 mg and 15 mg, respectively.
In this study, the average result increased with higher maintenance doses.
