There is no strict ban list at Ozempic. You don't have to cut anything out completely. But some foods can make symptoms like nausea and heartburn worse. This is because your stomach is already emptying more slowly because of the drug.
Why does nutrition make a difference?
The Ozempic injection slows down your stomach. Your food sits for longer. If you then eat a large or heavy meal, it will feel too full faster. Nausea, bloating or heartburn then lurk.
The good news: with a few adjustments, you will have much less of that. It's not about strict dieting. It's about choosing smarter, especially in the first few weeks and after a higher dose.
What often exacerbates symptoms?
These things cause more trouble in many people:
- Deep-fried and greasy food: Chips, deep-fried snacks and fatty sauces stay in your stomach the longest.
- Large portions: Even with less hunger, you can shovel too much onto your plate.
- Strongly spiced food: spicy dishes can tingle your stomach.
- Alcohol: exacerbates nausea and stomach upset, and adds up in calories.
- Carbonation: soft drinks and sparkling water cause bloating.
- Lots of dairy: In some people, this causes additional symptoms, in others not.
You don't have to avoid all of these. If you notice something bothering you, then you know what to look out for.
Just what is comfortable?
These choices fall well with most people:
- Small meals, more often in a day: better than three big ones.
- High in protein and easily digestible: think chicken, fish, eggs, yoghurt or pulses.
- Eat slowly and chew well: give your stomach time.
- Plenty of water, spread throughout the day: Small sips, not all at once.
- For severe complaints, light and simple: rice, banana, toasted bread, boiled potato.
On your injection day, many people like a light, protein-rich meal. For example, oatmeal with yoghurt and fruit, or a soup with chicken. Save the heavy and fatty dishes for another day.

Protein and fibre: two concerns
Two things deserve extra attention during a trajectory.
Protein helps preserve your muscles while you lose weight. You eat less, so the quality of what you eat counts more. Spread your protein throughout the day: one source at each meal.
Fibre helps against constipation, a common complaint. Vegetables, fruits, whole-grain products and legumes are good sources. Drink plenty of water with them, otherwise fibre will backfire.

When do you call for help?
Nutrition can alleviate many symptoms, but not all. Seek help if:
- Your symptoms remain severe despite adjustments.
- You can hardly eat or drink anymore.
- You doubt you are getting enough in.
A dietician can tailor a plan. Are you taking other medicines? Discuss possible interactions with your doctor. For full product information see the Ozempic page.

For most people, coffee is not a problem. If you have stomach problems or heartburn, coffee can temporarily worsen it. Cutting down or drinking something milder for a while will then help.
